AUSTRALIA: Alfa Romeo supports Police in the fight against crime

The Italian Carabinieri and Italian Police are no longer the only police force to use Alfa Romeo patrol cars, with New South Wales police using an Alfa Romeo 156 V6 in full police colours in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney in its crime prevention programme. The Alfa Romeo 156 V6 six speed manual has been donated by Alfa Romeo and has become a highly visible presence in Bondi and the surrounding areas, with Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Chris Stiles using the Alfa Romeo as a constant reminder of need for vigilance to fight crime.

"The Alfa Romeo performs two functions," says Sergeant Stiles. "Firstly, by providing a car for Crime Prevention work, Alfa Romeo has freed up public funds to be used elsewhere in the fight against crime. Secondly, it is a highly visible reminder to everyone who sees it of the work the Police do and the role everyone has in stopping crime. It attracts attention and makes people think about crime prevention and, as so much crime is opportunistic, if it makes people take precautions, then in a very real sense it is stopping crime."

Alfa Romeo has a long and illustrious history of providing Police cars in Europe, but this is the first time an Alfa Romeo has been used by the Police in Australia.
