La Casa non si sbilanci\u00c3\u00b2 sulla meccanica, dichiarando: &#8220;l&#8217;auto \u00c3\u00a8 stata studiata in maniera da potere essere prodotta in serie con un motore di notevoli prestazioni&#8221;. La direzione della Casa per\u00c3\u00b2 non seppe essere tempestiva, forse anche perch\u00c3\u00a9 il motore non era collaudato per l&#8217;impiego stradale. Fra arrabbiature e tentennamenti la &#8220;Montreal&#8221; definitiva apparve cos\u00c3\u00ac solo al Salone di Ginevra del 1970. All&#8217;esterno la &#8220;Montreal&#8221; di produzione differiva poco dal prototipo del 1967: nuove le ruote in lega con disegno a lamelle radiali, nuova la presa d&#8217;aria sul cofano e nuove, ma non belle, le maniglie delle porte. All&#8217;interno spiccava la plancia con gli strumenti sussidiari distribuiti in due blocchi concentrici attorno ai due quadranti principali.<br \/>\nStrumenti a parte, gli interni, per materiale e disegno, erano troppo simili a quelli delle Alfa Romeo di minor prestigio. Il pianale e le sospensioni derivavano dall&#8217;Alfa Romeo Giulia GT con opportuni adattamenti: nulla d&#8217;eccezionale, solo la certezza di una soluzione efficiente e collaudata. Anche se derivava dalle corse, aveva un&#8217;elasticit\u00c3\u00a0 incredibile: riprendeva da 1.500 giri\/min. in quinta senza sussulti, poi diventava &#8220;rabbioso&#8221; salendo ai regimi pi\u00c3\u00b9 elevati. Accelerazione (0-180 km\/h in 23&#8243;) e velocit\u00c3\u00a0 massima (235 km\/h) dipendevano dalle notevoli caratteriste del motore. Pure la tenuta di strada era eccellente, grazie al differenziale autobloccante. Le note dolenti erano il prezzo, lo stesso della Porsche &#8220;911 S&#8221;, e la necessit\u00c3\u00a0 di cure assidue per l&#8217;efficienza del motore.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>La &#8220;Montreal&#8221; non sub\u00c3\u00ac sostanziali modifiche durante la produzione, la pi\u00c3\u00b9 importante fu lo spoiler anteriore introdotto dopo i primi esemplari nel 1971. Nel 1972 il modello segn\u00c3\u00b2 il record produttivo: 2.377 unit\u00c3\u00a0. Poi la crisi petrolifera e le difficolt\u00c3\u00a0 di manutenzione riscontrate dai primi clienti fecero precipitare la domanda. Nel 1973 si costruirono solo 302 vetture. In altre parole la Montreal sub\u00c3\u00ac lo stesso destino d&#8217;altre interessanti GT contemporanee, come la Citro\u00c3\u00abn &#8220;SM&#8221; e la Fiat &#8220;Dino&#8221;, altre auto tornate nel mirino dei collezionisti per il buon rapporto fra il prezzo, le prestazioni e il prestigio. Bastano trenta milioni di lire per mettersi al volante di questo a lungo misconosciuto capolavoro dell&#8217;Alfa Romeo.
