La 159 utilizza il pianale PREMIUM ed \u00c3\u00a8 stata la prima auto dell&#8217; accordo Fiat-GM. I motori a 4 cilindri (tranne il 1800cc) derivano dal 2.200 Ecotec (OPEL-GM) .II tutto in alluminio presentato nel 2000 a cui lo staff tecnico d&#8217;integrazione Alfa Romeo in strettissima collaborazione con i tecnici GM hanno aggiunto i vari dispositivi addizionali gi\u00c3\u00a0 previsti nel progetto iniziale della famiglia ecotec; sembra che il contributo del gruppo Fiat riguardi il collettore di aspirazione di disegno specifico, la linea di scarico per riprodurre il tipico rombo degli storici Alfa Romeo, la centralina elettronica BOSCH con iniettori capaci di produrre il doppio getto e software specifico. La produzione avviene nello stabilimento GM HOLDEN di Port Melbourne e quindi anche per questo V6 non si sa con sicurezza se la testata venga costruita in Italia o no.
